These 15 plates were given to 15 women who came to my support, lifted me up and filled me with strength. The plates were made as I recovered from surgery and navigated my way through chemotherapy treatment.
They began as one large slab. The designs cross over from one plate to another since it was carved as one. As such, the plates are connected to one another, as are the 15 women.
Rolling out the large slab, carving, shaping, burnishing, drying, firing, glazing and firing again – each step I was thinking of how these women came together to support me, my husband and daughter in countless ways during this time.
They were like sisters encircling me and making us feel like we were not alone. With each plate I thank each one of them and hope they feel a connection with each other.
