Many people are reducing their consumption of “things” and opting to purchase “experiences” instead. Many experiences include organized exposure to nature of some sort and an opportunity to “escape reality.” The reality we will be escaping is our 9-5 jobs, mobile technology, fast food take-away, streaming entertainment, to name a few.
The promise is to escape all this when we go on a nature hike, bathe in a forest, observe a bird through binoculars…
I’m not sure how we evolved to this point where we need to pay someone to organize an immersion into nature.
It is ironic that when we do immerse ourselves in nature, we are not actually escaping reality. Nature is the true reality – we are immersing ourselves in reality.
